About the Opportunity

The role will aim to improve access for youth justice clients to an appropriate level of mental health treatment & enhance the capacity of youth justice staff and mental health staff to respond to youth justice clients requiring mental health services

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role you must have the following:

  • Understanding of and Commitment to the Aboriginal community
  • A demonstrated appreciation of mental disorders, it’s impact, ways to support the needs of the client and recovery strategies, particularly in relation to young people
  • An understanding of services provided by the justice system, local community mental health network, mainstream health services, and mental health services
  • Understanding of mental health issues within the Aboriginal Community and the impacts on families and support networks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people affected by a range of psychiatric conditions
  • Demonstrated skills in case management.
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Good computer skills and an understanding of data collection
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and other communication skills
  • The demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team

Desirable:

  • Experience in a mental health related facility would be an advantage

Qualifications, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Tertiary qualifications and experience in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Psychology or other allied health disciplines
  • Current Victorian Driving License
  • Current Working With Children Check
  • Current National Police Check
