VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.

We have 33 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. About the role

The VACCHO Public Health Registrar supports the Public Health Medical Officer(s) in their role of:

Providing high-level public health expertise and advice to all program areas of VACCHO and supporting clinical quality improvement in VACCHO’s member ACCOs; Supporting the quality improvement of health services to Aboriginal Victorians through continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes, sector capacity building, and advocacy to governments; Actively contributing to expert advisory bodies, CQI projects, and health protection activities.

Key duties for this role will include providing guidance, advice, and support on a wide range of public health issues at local, state and national levels to VACCHO members, board, staff and other stakeholders.

Essential skills / experiences

  • A Medical degree, and current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications or demonstrated experience in general practice or public health, preferably in in a community and public health context.
  • Experience engaging with the ACCO sector to develop strategies aimed at improving health and wellbeing outcomes especially in primary health and social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Experience providing independent advice to organisations on matters of clinical practice, including the translation and application of health information and clinical guidelines.
  • Experience supporting the development of resources and workflows that improve ACCO sustainability, including supporting clinics with Medicare billing, access to clinical supervision, and investigating opportunities to improve workforce supply.
  • Currently enrolment in the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) Advanced Training Program, or have/will meet the eligibility requirements for the AFPHM Advanced Training Program as per the RACP AFPHM Program Requirements Handbook requirements prior to commencement in the position
