VACCHO is Victoria’s peak representative Aboriginal health and wellbeing body, championing community control and health equality for our Communities. We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing, advocating for the health equality and optimum health and wellbeing of all Aboriginal peoples in Victoria.

The Population Health and Sector Development unit provides a strategic, coordinated and evidence based approach to member services, workforce support and mainstream responsiveness to improve the Aboriginal community's health and wellbeing outcomes.

The Executive Manager, Sector Development will work closely with the unit Executive Director and provide operational management and leadership to the Sector Development team, to ensure they meet agreed program outcomes and develop and implement a vision that supports a sustainable, self-determining ACCO sector. This includes systemic and sustainable solutions from Board Governance coaching and mentoring and support to Accreditation, primary care systems and advice, including digital health, NDIS, as well as hospitals, particularly supporting Aboriginal workforces within the tertiary system.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to holistic Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control
  • An understanding and ability to articulate Aboriginal self-determination, community advancement and capacity building, as well as to a high quality of service delivery and organisational excellence
  • The ability to be a strategic, systems thinker, to identify and analyse problems, establish appropriate sustainable solutions and recommendations using analytical and conceptual skills
  • Experience and knowledge, or the ability to acquire knowledge of relevant health and wellbeing approaches/programs and promotion and how they relate to the Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated excellent emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and high level communication skills to develop, maintain and enhance working relationships
  • A flexible and agile approach, including the ability to effectively prioritise, to meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions and deadlines
  • Demonstrated highly developed influencing and negotiation skills to gain co-operation of others in achievement of objectives
  • High level time management skills with the ability to effectively manage time and workload, prioritise tasks and meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions and deadlines
  • At least 3 years demonstrated experience in leadership and staff management including responsibility for effective service delivery, staff capacity building, and creating and maintaining and effective and highly motivated team
  • Highly developed written communication, administration and ICT skills with the proven ability to prepare a range of documents including business proposals, reports, submissions, reviewing and drafting contracts and the analysis of data
  • A Victorian Drivers License. Travel is a requirement of this position across Victoria and occasional inter-state travel. Travel at this time has been impacted by COVID-19 but will be an integral part of the role
  • A working with Children’s check
