The Opportunity:

The Aboriginal Metropolitan Methamphetamine Ice Partnership - Pilot, referred as The Pilot, is a practical response to assist in addressing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community needs to be associated with ice issues, in metropolitan areas of Melbourne. The Pilot targets Aboriginal individuals and families affected by ice and service flexibility to assist the community more generally around the broader alcohol and other drugs related issues.

A key facet of this Pilot is to work collaboratively with a mainstream AOD Clinician, with an Aboriginal Care Recovery worker, in order to get the best treatment outcomes for Aboriginal people and engagement of Aboriginal people.

To be considered for this role you must demonstrate:

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people
  • A proven ability to advocate on behalf of children and families
  • An ability to work effectively with Aboriginal organisations, government departments, and community service organisations
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare reports
  • A proven ability to work as part of a team
  • A willingness to participate in training programs and supervision
  • Demonstrated ability in convening and mediating outcomes with groups
  • Sound knowledge of local issues and need of the Aboriginal Community
  • The capacity to develop, plan, implement, manage and evaluate a program
  • An ability to work flexible hours

Desirable:

  • Experience or formal qualifications in Social Work, Family Support, or Family Welfare
