About the role

The principle role of the Team Leader is to oversee the day to day management of the Out of Home Care program and the Better Futures program and to guide, supervise and support Case Managers in the delivery of both services. In addition, the Team Leader has a key role in providing culturally safe support, guidance and mentoring to Case Managers in both programs. It is the Team Leader’s responsibility to advocate for decisions that are in the best interests of the child, young person or family, taking into account their connection to culture.

The role is pivotal to ensuring compliance with agency registration and Out of Home Care standards. The role must engage with internal and external stakeholders including Child Protection, housing services and a range of Aboriginal Organisations in the South Division of DFFH. This role must demonstrate a highly developed understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and the ability to work from a cultural perspective.

About You

  • Qualifications which may include University or TAFE certification in community services, Youth Case Management and/or Social work
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in the provision of a high standard of contracted case management practice
  • Proven ability to articulate clear, assertive and persuasive messages when advocating on behalf of children young people and families
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff by providing them with relevant information, support, feedback about their work, and opportunities for professional development
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team as well as providing leadership to a team and capacity to delegate and allocate tasks
  • Well-developed organisational, written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare reports, meet deadlines and prepare periodic data reports
