A quick yarn about the opportunity...

The Senior Child and Families Case Manager role is key role within our multidisciplinary Intensive Family Services team. It will encourage families to share their story and ensure the active involvement of families on their journey throughout the process and encourage them toward the ultimate goal of Self-Determination. The role will provide casework supports which may include some group work and case coordination aimed at supporting families to access programs and services which connect, protect and heal.

Some duties of the role may include:

  • Empower families to share their story their way, through the implementation of the Information Gathering Tool process, Footsteps to our Future;
  • Undertake assertive outreach and employ active engagement strategies to support parents to sustain their participation in the program;
  • Provide families with information and cultural resources to maximise opportunities to take part in community events and activities to maximise cultural connections;
  • Take time to engage with families, developing trusting relationships over time to create environments where families feel comfortable and safe
  • Facilitate access to specialised and/or universal supports and services.

To make the most of this deadly opportunity, the following things are key elements to your success:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or similar, or a willingness to gain a qualification (Tertiary can be Tafe or University level qualifications);
  • Experience and knowledge of Case management and service delivery in the social and community sector;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key issues that are being faced by Aboriginal communities and families in contemporary society and knowledge of historical issues that have caused harm to Aboriginal cultures and societies;
  • Ability to identify family strengths and implement strengths based initiatives to assist Aboriginal parents and families;
  • Experience and knowledge in engaging with the Aboriginal community and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations;
  • The ability to work in a non-judgmental, positive and culturally safe and appropriate manner, with a focus on positive relationship development;
  • Resilient, with great team working skills and ability to communicate with respect.
  • Requirement: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Drivers License
