About the role

The position will:

  • Work with Aboriginal clients, their families and an AOD Counsellor to support Care and Recovery Plans in supporting treatment
  • Identify and assist in addressing the associated needs of families and dependent children
  • Work closely with the catchment-based intake and assessment service, in providing a culturally responsive service
  • Facilitate access to and reintegration from Adult and Youth specific such as Withdrawal services and Residential Rehabilitation Service where appropriate

About You

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA' vision and purpose and the capacity to take a leadership role in championing these internally and externally
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities
  • Sound understanding of the nature of complex trauma and historical effects on the Aboriginal Community due to loss of lands, displacement of Communities and removal of children which can contribute to an intergenerational passing on of trauma
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal people with AOD issues
  • An ability to work effectively with Aboriginal organisations, government departments and community service organisations
