The Role

This position is located within UWU’s Logistics team, which is responsible for organising workers in warehouses and distribution centres throughout Australia. Our team has a strong commitment to empowering workers to take action to win permanent improvements in wages and conditions across the industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build active and sustainable organising structures that contribute to achieving the Objects of the Union.
• Build power and shift workers to take action.
• Undertake collective agreement negotiations.
• Create and work to organising plans ensuring membership growth; member leadership and action; and winning industry power.
• Assess and support the development of delegates and members.
• Ensure that the Union’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion are upheld and promoted.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

An Organiser demonstrates:

• A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieving the goals of the Union.
• Good communication, messaging and rapport building skills.
• An ability to develop members, including motivating and educating others.
• An ability to participate in the union’s political and social justice agenda.
• An ability to plan and organise a large workload and achieve outcomes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.
• High level written and verbal communication skills.

Candidates with experience in union or related organising and campaigning will be highly regarded.

An ability to speak a language other than English will also be highly regarded.

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

• A valid driver’s licence; and
• Right of Entry Permits

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

• Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience
• A motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance
• 16% superannuation
• 6 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading
