The Hive, Mt Druitt leads collective work to ensure all children in Mt Druitt start school well. We have 6000 children under 5 years old and 33% of those are considered ‘developmentally vulnerable’ when they start school. The Hive is a network of people working in Mt Druitt, to bring together the community, services, businesses, government, and philanthropy to address locally identified priorities.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking someone with family support work and/or expertise on the early learning system to support families in Mount Druitt to enroll in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). The Early Learning Linker will leverage community engagement activities, as well as work closely with preschools, schools and local services in order to engage with local families, before working 1:1 with families to overcome barriers to early education opportunities.

In this role, you will:

  • Draw on strong interpersonal skills in building authentic relationships with families and identifying situations in which families are seeking to enrol in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) but are facing barriers
  • Advocate for the needs of families within various settings, specifically in circumstances that are hindering a family’s ability to enroll or sustain their enrolment in ECEC
  • Confidently connect and collaborate with various stakeholders across 2770 including preschool and childcare centres and local services, creating opportunities and pathways for warm referrals to be made
  • Use a trauma-informed lens in both working with and understanding the needs of the families with which you work
  • Build rapport and relationships with both services and families, in particular through attending community engagement activities
  • Complete administration tasks such as paperwork and record keeping in an efficient and diligent manner
  • Work within a small team that promotes a dynamic, flexible and innovative working environment.

ABOUT YOU:

As the Early Learning Linker you will have a Social Work, Early Childhood Education or similar tertiary education degree, and will have some experience working 1:1 with vulnerable and/or disadvantaged families and communities. You will have knowledge and skills around working patiently and flexibly with families as you utilise skills in both strengths-based and solutions-focused approaches, to support families overcome the barriers to early childhood education and care.

We are a child safe organisation and ensure our new hires are appropriately checked, including a Working With Children Check.
