The Hive, Mt Druitt leads collective work to ensure all children in Mt Druitt start school well. We have 6000 children under 5 years old and 33% of those are considered ‘developmentally vulnerable’ when they start school. The Hive is a network of people working in Mt Druitt, to bring together the community, services, businesses, government, and philanthropy to address locally identified priorities.

We are seeking a passionate and caring individual with strong interpersonal skills to support our community engagement events and programs. This person will support the Hive team to design and implement events and initiatives in partnership with local Mount Druitt residents with the purpose of building local relationships, hearing from community members and creating positive activities and opportunities for local families to connect with services and each other.

You will work alongside community members to build and develop community leadership and support community to lead advocacy efforts into local issues with the purpose of long-term systemic change.

ABOUT YOU

As the Community Engagement Officer you will support the design and delivery of suburb level engagement and conversations with the purpose of building the Hive’s relationships and trust within local communities.

You will have:

  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills
  • The ability to confidently build relationships and trust with local residents and services.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Experience in the planning and delivery of community events and activities
  • The ability and desire to work collaboratively and positively with local community members and organisations
  • Ability to build capacity in others and create opportunities for local community leadership
  • Capacity to work with families experiencing disadvantage with a strengths-based and non-judgemental approach
  • A strong desire to make a positive difference for families in Mount Druitt

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Community Engagement Officer you will participate in local working groups to design, plan and deliver community events for the purpose of broad community engagement and relationship building and provide leadership at community events where needed. You will build strong and cohesive relationships with local community members, while identifying community leaders and volunteers and creating pathways for them to participate in and lead the collective work.

You will conduct ‘community conversations’ across the suburbs that the Hive is engaged in, and collaboratively use these conversations to understanding and responding to local issues.

The Community Engagement Officer works alongside their team and partners to create workplans to respond to community input and supports the implementation of these workplans.
