About the opportunity

Our Domestic Outreach Team is now recruiting for an Indigenous Outreach Coordinator!

The Indigenous Outreach Coordinator will work in close liaison with the Engagement and Partnerships Manager and Director, Domestic Recruitment and Access to develop and implement the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement, recruitment, and outreach strategies to meet the University of Sydney’s student profile targets.

As part of developing and implementing these outreach strategies you will research market competitors and on an ongoing basis review / implement new strategies to improve our program, and further provide support to high school Aboriginal Liaison Officers through the distribution of information relevant to students about the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage Indigenous recruitment and outreach plan implementation including all communication, analysis and evaluation elements
  • promote and publicise the University of Sydney as a destination for Indigenous students who qualify for tertiary study, ensuring effecting management of the University’s representation at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-specific recruitment and outreach events, education exhibitions, school/university visits and cultural events, where required
  • develop and maintain relationships within the internal University community, schools, partners, TAFEs, communities, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations locally, regionally and across the state
  • contribute to developing policies and strategies highlighting issues affecting aspirations, recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff at the University
  • provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-specific engagement and recruitment advice to the faculties and other University portfolios through research, development, and anticipation of trends through market research

Required

  • Identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander
  • hold a valid paid Working with Children Check (volunteer checks will not be accepted)
  • demonstrated professional experience working within higher education or a tertiary organisation.

About you

  • Previous professional experience working within outreach / engagement, or within project and administration roles supporting Indigenous related initiatives
  • demonstrated capacity to build and maintain network of relationships with a broad range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, schools and others concerned with the recruitment and support of Indigenous students
  • knowledge and understanding of education sector, knowledge of University policies and procedures related to student recruitment matters.
  • confident and effective communication across all forms of communication, verbal, written and within a team environment
  • demonstrated ability for critical and creative thinking to develop innovative solutions to reach the student recruitment targets.
