About the opportunity

UnitingSA has a vacancy for a passionate and engaging Lifestyle Assistant to join us at Hawksbury Gardens Aged Care Facility on a casual basis.

Hawksbury Gardens is a lovely Aged Care Facility located in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide, offering dementia specific programs, 24/7 access to nursing professionals and pastoral practitioners. Recently refurbished with award winning design in Aged Care, the new develop includes 26 new bedrooms with private bathrooms, a new kitchen, communal areas and dining areas.

About the role

Reporting into the Director of Nursing, you’ll be responsible for planning, developing and implementing programs and activities for our residents, to maintain and enhance their physical, emotional and social well-being and independence.

A day in the life looks like

Your day will be varied and busy, and you’ll be required to:

  • Develop activities alongside residents and families to reflect their needs and interests
  • Provide support and guidance to residents and families
  • Alongside the team, develop a weekly program of activities, ensuring that the activities includes outings which are suitable for all residents’ abilities and interests
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, administrative tasks, meetings and workgroups

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a hardworking, passionate and approachable individual who loves working with the elderly. You’ll be patient and understanding, kind and empathetic.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in a Lifestyle / Diversional Therapist role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build rapport with residents, carers, families and other staff members
  • An understanding of the ageing process that includes cognitive decline and physical disabilities
  • Current National Police Clearance and DCSI Clearance
  • Cert III or IV in Lifestyle
  • Current First Aid Certificate
