About the opportunity

Uniting Counselling and Mediation has a long history of high quality service delivery, being well regarded and connected with Family Law stakeholders.  You will be providing clinical supervision and high-level counselling interventions to practitioners working across the suite of post-separation programs offered by Uniting Counselling and Mediation, Sydney.  This includes innovative telehealth and digital options, child inclusive practice, and psycho-educational and therapeutic groups for children, young people and adults.

This position is offered on a full-time basis and is based in Sydney CBD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional Clinical Supervision in accordance with UCM policies and procedures on a regularly scheduled basis, as well as on an ad hoc basis as needed, primarily to counselling practitioners and intake/administration staff.
  • Provide live supervision utilising one-way screen. 
  • Conduct initial family counsellor authorisation process, as per AGD requirements, with new counselling practitioners, as well as annual counsellor authorisation reviews.
  • Maintain a clinical caseload, as negotiated with the UCM Centre Manager, Sydney, and participate in working one evening per week.
  • Provide family therapy to children, young people and their families involved in separation, divorce, and complex external systems (such as DCJ / child protection, Family Court, mental health, domestic violence).
  • Provide child consultation as part of child inclusive practice to families after separation and divorce, including involuntary and court-ordered clients.  Formulate interventions to provide feedback to parents in a way that facilitates change for the child.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Psychology, or Social Work or other equivalent and relevant field.
  • Extensive experience delivering individual, couple and family therapy, preferably with Family Law matters
  • High level clinical supervision skills (minimum two years’), including use of one-way screen and leading reflecting team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high conflict individuals, couples and families with complex issues.  Competence in working with issues of family violence.
  • Understanding of child protection issues
  • Excellent communication, organisation and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as be able to contribute to the smooth functioning of a team

Even better:

  • Accredited post graduate training in individual, couple or family therapy
  • Eligibility for membership to relevant professional bodies (eg. AASW, APS, PACFA)
  • Previous experience in team leadership role
  • Experience working with court ordered and involuntary clients
  • Prior experience in group facilitation
  • Familiarity with the Family Law Act and other relevant legislation (eg. Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act
