Uniting Legal:

Uniting Legal is situated within the GRQ Directorate. The mission of GRQ is to strengthen the quality of services by building sustainable governance frameworks that will enable Uniting to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

The purpose of the team is to facilitate the management of the organisation’s exposure to legal risk by recommending preventative action, identifying early dispute resolution opportunities, and providing commercially-useful advice.

Duties include

  • Responding to formal applications for information, Court subpoenas, and other notices served on Uniting including reviewing and collating the relevant documents required to comply with such notices;
  • Assisting with the management of claims including the notification of insurers and the sourcing and proof-reading of documents required for Court matters;
  • Assisting with the delivery of legal awareness sessions and related compliance activities;
  • Researching, retrieving, and collating information from various legal and other publicly available databases concerning reform proposals, legislative amendments, and relevant legal cases;
  • Maintaining a confidential database of all legal matters including the establishment of file protocols to facilitate automated reporting while maintaining legal professional privilege at all times;
  • Preparing legal reports required by the Board and Executive and ensure those reports are prepared on time to meet agreed timelines and meetings scheduled with relevant stakeholders to discuss the outcomes of those reports;
  • Liaising with law firms and internal stakeholders concerning instructions, fee estimates, presentation of awareness sessions, matter status, and report preparation; and
  • Requisitioning purchase orders and monitoring budget expenditure.

Our ideal candidate:

If you have recently obtained (or in the latter stages of completing) a Certificate IV in Legal Services; or are in the early stages of study or a law degree/diploma (probably within the first 2 years), or you currently work as a legal secretary with the requisite work experience.

You have demonstrated ability that you can:

  • Establish and maintain a file in legal services
  • Operate a database and be proficient in the use of Office applications such as word, excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Produce complex legal documents
  • Research legal information using primary sources
  • Identify and apply the legal framework
  • Apply the principles of the law

You will possess strong interpersonal skills, have high levels of accuracy, attention to detail, excellent computer abilities, and have a strong work ethic.
