Seeking an Aboriginal manager to lead Ngurambang Permanency Support Program, through to a dynamic stand alone Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisation (ACCO) with support from the Board and Uniting. This leader must be grounded in restoration principles, driven by connection to community, culture and family.

The Permanency Support Program (PSP) aims to give every child/ young person a loving home, with a focus on restoration, family, extended family and other accredited carers where these options are not currently available. We provide culturally supported placement options for Aboriginal children and young people 0-18 years with a strong focus on Family Finding principles.

Ngurambang is an Aboriginal service established to provide case management and support for Aboriginal children and young people living in care. Meaning "Country or Home" in Wiradjuri language. Ngurambang is currently supported by Uniting and operates in Western New South Wales with a focus on Dubbo, Narromine, and Wellington.

About the role

This role is responsible for leading operations and outcomes delivery, for planning, budgeting and reporting on activities, coordinating key practice approaches within the PSP Family Preservation (PSP FP) and PSP (Foster Care) teams, liaison with key stakeholders including the Ngurambang Board, other PSP and Family Preservation teams, Practice and Quality improvement Specialist team members and for preparing regular management reports.

This is a full time permanent position in Dubbo, relocation packages are on offer.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Takes responsibility for ensuring that team members have the necessary resources and capability to deliver high quality work.  Regularly assesses team member performance, sets objectives and establishes active development plans.
  • Provide consistent and visible leadership in WH&S behaviours and actions within the team and department and ensure there is a safe working environment and that staff are properly trained to be able to work in a safe manner.
  • Understands sector trends such as NSW permanency and restoration reforms, and service implications for our workforce, children, young people, carers and birth families.
  • Lead a team of passionate Caseworkers to make a real difference in culturally appropriate Aboriginal specific services and the delivery of high-quality services to children and young people.
  • Lead and manage the PSP and Family Preservation team delivering a range of evidence based, trauma informed, culturally competent and responsive services to prevent unnecessary entry of children and young people into Out of Home Care (OOHC).
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Uniting Carer Support Team in western NSW.

About you

  • Bachelor qualification in a relevant business field or equivalent experience.
  • This is a supervisory role, typically requiring 3 or more years, including two or more years’ experience supervising a small team of specialists. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be organised, systematic, thorough, accurate and disciplined.
  • This is an identified Aboriginal role. Having an understanding of your local community and key Aboriginal stakeholders in your community is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective community networks to promote the service and facilitate access of families to community resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage administrative time- lines in terms of the preparation, facilitation, organisation, development, maintenance, monitoring, planning and reporting functions of a service.
  • Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Word and ability to oversight client management systems (eg Carelink).
