About the opportunity

Uniting is seeking a Chef/ Cook to work at Uniting Starrett Lodge in Hamlyn Terrace on a Full Time closed period contract till 1/7/2022.

Our Cooks/Chefs are core to the Uniting team, and live and breathe Inspired Care.

This role is central to the delivery of our person-centred approach, working cooperatively with care teams to deliver planned and holistic catering services and meals to our residents.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Facilitating and overseeing the quality, timely and effective preparation of food in line with the unique needs of clients in an environment where dietary requirements can change rapidly.
  • Planning and developing in consultation with the service manager and residents rotating menus where required.
  • Preparing and cooking all daily meals and maintain the storage and protection of food and catering supplies for optimum use.
  • Ensuring food preparation and catering practises adhere to hygiene and safety principles and free of any hazards.
  • Maintaining a safe Work environment and adhere to Safe Work Practices.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery or similar or demonstrated competence in the provision of catering services 
  • Current First Aid certificate

Skills & experience

  • Experience with cook fresh/cook chill methodology.
  • Demonstrated competence in the preparation of menus in accordance with dietary requirements.
  • Demonstrated competence in the purchasing, storage and efficient use of food supplies within endorsed budget guidelines
  • Awareness of texture modified food/controls
  • Knowledge of current safe food handling practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to infection control and safe work practices
