Caseworker - Bourke, Cobar or Nyngan

This role is responsible for providing assessment, Intensive Home Visiting, crisis management, and longer term casework as per the Homebuilders Model to families at high risk of having their children removed into care for protective concerns or having their children restored into their care.

This role can be a full time or part time permanent position where you can work out of one of our offices in either Bourke, Cobar or Nyngan.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role. Having an understanding of your local community and key Aboriginal stakeholders in your community is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive casework and case management services to Aboriginal families with complex needs in the program in accordance with the Homebuilders® Model, Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide planning support and structure for the safety of Aboriginal children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with agency policies and relevant professional responsibilities where the safety of the child or young person is at risk.
  • Assess the crisis the family is facing and establish an intervention involving Intensive Home Visiting, which ensures the safety of the child is paramount.
  • Assist families to formulate and achieve goals that are child focused and address the safety and well-being of children.
  • Assess families’ strength and needs using the NCFAS G+R, Domestic Violence Framework and other approved assessment tools.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of case plans with families.
  • Conduct a risk assessment of worker safety and develop strategies to offset risk so that workers are able to continue to access the family home.
  • Provide evidence-based parent education programs to families in the step down phase of the program.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social sciences with relevant life and/or work experience with children and families, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work
  • Willing to be trained in the Homebuilders Model
  • Demonstrated commitment to children remaining with their own family provide they are safe.
  • The ability to assess and work with families to strengthen attachment and bonding between a parent and child.
  • Ability to engage families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of intervention strategies from the Homebuilders Model
  • Aboriginality and willing to be an active member of the Ngumba-Dal network.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to conduct risk and family assessments using strengths-based approach.
