About the opportunity

The Family Connect and Support (FCS) program is a whole-of-family service for children, young people and their families experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerability. The FCS program will aim to assist families who could benefit from support to address and prevent the escalation of current issues. The FSC will primarily work with those families with identified vulnerabilities and concerns that fall below the threshold of statutory child protection intervention.

This role is responsible for managing a caseload of families with children and young people that identify as aboriginal who have been assessed as having medium to high complexities and require a coordinated approach to accessing and engaging services and supports within the local area that address and prevent the escalation of current issues and concerns. Family Connectors will provide a tiered approach to support which will include; short term case work, case planning, service coordination and active holding.

The incumbent of this role will have significant social experience and engagement with people that identify as aboriginal, and their communities and cultural practices.

About You

• Identifies as an Australian Aboriginal person, and able to provide appropriate evidence of Aboriginal identity that satisfies the accepted statutory definition of an Aboriginal person.
• Minimum Diploma in Social Work, Community Services, Youth Work or similar with relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Can work under general direction and organisation constraints set by Uniting
• Understands  child protection issues and responds in line with legislative requirements
• Demonstrated experience working within a range of practice frameworks and theoretical models of intervention
• Proficient in the development of case plans that acknowledge and utilise the strengths of the client, their family and the community
• Ability to work within clear objectives in the coordination of short-term case work
• Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal children, young people and their families in a way that is culturally appropriate and responsive
• Has an established network within the local Aboriginal community
• Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal community structures
• Current NSW Working with Children Check
• Current NSW drivers licence

• Demonstrated experience engaging and working with young and their families who are impacted by mental health issues.
