The Organisation

United – Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre Incorporated (United) is a NFP community organisation established in 1977 by a dynamic group of recent arrived migrants and refugees from Latin America and Spain. The Agency was incorporated as the Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre. Until three years ago, the organisation became widely known by the initials of its Spanish name CELAS (Centro Español Latino Americano de Asistencia Social).

For the past 43 years, the Agency has provided and continues to provide community services. For about two decades, following its establishment, the programs delivered concentrated on facilitating the settlement process of new and recent arrivals, however, as the Spanish-speaking communities aged, the main focus changed, and United begun providing Aged Care Services, as well as continued to deliver information and educational community support programs.

The Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the daily operational requirements on site as well as the delivery of the agency’s various community support programs. The successful candidate will oversee the operations of the only NFP community organisation providing community support and development services to the Spanish-speaking Community of Victoria.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for motivating, mentoring and assisting programs coordinators, administration and support staff delivering home and community support services to collectively achieve funded programs targets and objectives, whilst ensuring budgets are met and the agency remains compliant with all government funding requirements. The position requires the incumbent to possess the ability to build strong relationships and utilise exceptional interpersonal skills to succeed in this role.

United is looking for a candidate who aims for continuous improvement across operations practices, understands the importance of leading by example and, can demonstrate a high understanding of the current and growing needs of the Spanish-speaking communities in Victoria.

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work or related discipline
  • Proven experience (at least 4 years of experience) in an Operations Management role in the community sector
  • Bilingual Skills (Spanish and English)
  • Experience in Contract Management
  • Achieved exceptional Workplace Health & Safety outcomes
  • Ability to influence and engage with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss and balance sheets
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to think on your feet
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current and the growing community services needs of the Spanish-Speaking community
  • Valid and unrestricted driving license
  • Australian citizen or permanent residence
