In Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC), we have a passion to see our academics and their collaboration partners succeed, achieve research excellence and translate their discoveries into real-world innovation and impact.
Within RIC, the Office for Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) provides expert advice, guidance and training to facilitate the ethical and responsible conduct of research. We partner with academic divisions and Chancellery to support ten key areas of governance and oversight: research integrity, human ethics, animal ethics, gene technology, bio-risk management, animal welfare, clinical trials, quality assurance, export controls and sanctions.
The University of Melbourne is investing in Ethics. In 2020 a new ethics system, new processes and a new shared service model will be introduced to support and make life easier for our researchers. This is a unique opportunity for you to join OREI.
As Human Ethics Officer, you will manage and act as Secretary to University Human Ethics Committees (at least one “Greater than Low Risk” or two “Low to Negligible Risk” Committees) and will support the operations of other committees as required.
In this position, you will provide advice, interpret and accurately apply general principles, University policies and legislation to individual matters. You will assist in the development and implementation of information resources and training programs related to human ethics. You will further contribute to the creation, implementation, review and ongoing development of policies, guidelines and procedures relating to the use of humans in teaching and research.
You will be an organisational talent, excelling at managing competing deadlines and priorities at short notice. We are looking for a highly organised team player to join our ethics space. You will have demonstrated knowledge about human ethics and the respective requirements of the National Statement, relevant Commonwealth and State legislation and external regulatory bodies.
You will pride yourself on your excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will have the ability to convey complex and confidential information in a sensitive yet clear manner.
