Climate Reality Project Officer

University of Melbourne

The Climate Reality Project (TCRP) is a worldwide climate action organisation, founded by former US Vice President Al Gore following the global success of his film An Inconvenient Truth. TCRP’s base in Australia and the Pacific is hosted at the University of Melbourne by Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute. TCRP values integrity, teamwork, maturity, adaptability and meticulousness in supporting individuals and institutions acting on climate change.

Having built a solid of trained Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs) in Australia, the branch is increasingly expanding its presence in the Pacific and New Zealand. The CRL network is geographically and sectorally diverse with the shared goal of making the greatest difference on climate change within their spheres of influence. The Project Officer will need to be equally comfortable working with leaders and organisations ranging from global corporates to academics, and from other eNGOs to grassroots communities in remote locations.

The Project Officer will play a critical role in supporting existing and future cohorts of leaders. The branch’s community of CRLs stands at over 2,000 and is growing rapidly. The Project Officer will play a central role in reviewing existing back-office systems and devising and implementing new systems and structures to service this growth.

Experience in shaping climate communications messages will be required along with proficiency with digital communications and social media platforms. TCRP will host an online Global Training led by Mr. Gore in October and the Project Officer will help ensure the success of this and future trainings.

We are seeking a responsible and enthusiastic individual who has a strong interest in advancing the aims of Climate Reality. They will be adept at responding to changing priorities and working with limited supervision. Important attributes for the role are integrity, initiative, maturity and interpersonal skills.

Please note, the role is based at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus. Applicants must also be able to attend interviews in person at the campus. While it is not a prerequisite, applications from people who are trained Climate Reality Leaders and/or with experience working in the university sector will be viewed favourably.
