The UFUSA operates in both state and federal jurisdictions representing the interests of professional firefighters. We are seeking a permanent full time Industrial Officer to join the team in our small busy union office, reporting directly to the Secretary.

Duties and Responsibilities include

  • Providing advice and support to members on a range of industrial matters including wages and conditions, disciplinary, promotion and training matters including the interpretation of enterprise agreement and award terms;
  • Calculating and resolving under and over payment of wages;
  • Research and reports on industrial, and health and safety matters;
  • Assisting in the resolution of worksite grievances;
  • Developing and assisting in strategic campaigns;
  • Drafting, lodging and running disputes in the Fair Work Commission and the South Australian Employment Tribunal, including advocacy, preparing written submissions and witness statements and other evidence for arbitration;
  • Preparing and lodging agreements and supporting documents with FWC and SAET;
  • Providing advice and support to advance the Objects of the Union.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of trade unionism is required;
  • Sound knowledge of industrial relations, WHS and employment law;
  • Well-developed research, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Advocacy experience in negotiations and industrial tribunals;
  • High-level interpersonal and excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Time management & organisational skills with the ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, including flexibility to take on other duties and responsibilities;
  • Computer skills relevant to the position;
  • Current SA driver’s licence;
  • Capacity to gain and hold ROE.
  • Legal qualification is highly desirable.

An attractive package will be negotiated with a salary range of between $70 to $90K pa commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience, together with excellent working conditions and generous superannuation.
