About the Role:

Based in the National Office of the Union, this role provides vital high-level assistance and support to the National Secretary and Assistant National Secretary. TWU national offices are located in Sydney CBD.

This position is a 12-month position to cover maternity leave.

Job Description:

  • Providing high-level assistance and support to the National Secretary and Assistant National Secretary.
  • Diary and email management.
  • Phone screening and management of correspondences.
  • Coordinating Travel and accommodation requirements.
  • Preparation of meeting agendas, minute-taking and distribution follow up with stakeholders, booking of rooms, facilities, catering etc.
  • Liaising with the Chief of Campaigns and other team members to provide necessary support to the National Secretary and Assistant National Secretary for meetings, conferences, speeches and other public events.
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with Branch Officials and team members.
  • Working with other team members to coordinate systems to support the travel, accommodation, meeting and administrative needs of the team.
  • Working in a collegiate manner with other team members to coordinate monthly National Committee of Management (NCOM) meetings and the Annual week long National Council meeting, (including attendance at National Council).
  • Working with other team members to coordinate the International work of the Union, with a particular focus on the ITF.
  • Other tasks as directed by the National Secretary, Assistant National Secretary or their nominee.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Excellent diary and email management skills
  • Ability to manage a busy diary with the ability to juggle everchanging diary commitments
  • Excellent IT communications skills
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • A polite and professional phone manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to work in a positive and collegiate manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative
  • A commitment to Labour values
  • Experience within a union or social justice organisation is preferred
