The Transport Workers Union is one of the largest and most powerful unions in Australia representing transport workers and those who work in connection to the transport industry. The New South Wales Branch is currently seeking an employee to work as an Organiser on a full time ongoing basis. The position will be based out of our Minchinbury Office.

As an Organiser, you will work within a larger team of Organisers to; provide industrial advice & assistance, WHS advice & assistance, grow and strengthen TWU membership, develop delegates and HSRs and build activism and leadership amongst Union members.

Organisers are expected to be involved in the following tasks:

  • Working with members, workplace delegates, workplace HSRs and workplace leaders to assist them in their campaigns to build strength and organise at their worksites and across their industries.
  • Working with Senior Officials and Officials to plan and implement campaigns that build the strength of the Union, recruit and retain members and deliver good industrial and WHS outcomes.
  • Recruitment and retention of members. Holding conversations with members seeking they become or retain their membership with our Union.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL HAVE:

  • An understanding of how the Union works;
  • Experience as a union Organiser or similar role;
  • A demonstrated commitment to union values and social justice;
  • The ability to motivate and educate union members and potential members;
  • The ability to participate in the union’s political and social justice agenda;
  • Union campaigning experience;
  • Computer literacy and IT skills including proficiency in word and excel;
  • A current unrestricted driver’s licence;
  • Strong communication skills; and
  • The ability to work flexible arrangements.
