Financial Accountant

Edrolo

Summary

We’re an Australian, venture-backed edtech company helping to improve school education for 250,000+ students in 1,100+ schools through innovative and high-quality teaching and learning resources. Following our recent $40 million Series B raise, we’re building the next generation of resources to transform Australian classrooms from Years 7–10. This is in addition to the catalogue of market-leading resources we already have for senior secondary school students in Victoria, NSW and QLD.

We’re now seeking a Financial Accountant to help us level up our finance function, by building strong internal controls and processes and supporting us as we transition to full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards. This is not your standard accounting role - this is a great learning and growth opportunity for someone who is keen to hit the ground running in a brand new role.

About the role

You’ll be the third hire in our new finance team, and will be crucial in shaping the function. Our rapid growth period has resulted in increased needs for our work, both internally and externally. Your first few months will focus on learning the business and setting up some strong accounting models, as well as assisting in the internal and external reporting requirements. Over time, you’ll work to identify gaps in our processes and controls, and provide solutions to address these.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • The development and maintenance of robust, scalable processes and controls that are appropriate for our fast-growing company
  • The interpretation and adoption of Australian Accounting Standards, and building appropriate models to ensure we adhere to these
  • Helping to manage the annual audit process
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial data for board packs and monthly financial reporting
  • Business partnering with the management team, providing analysis of relevant financial data and metrics
  • Running month end processes and associated quarter and year end processes
  • Assisting the management team with R&D submissions, inventory and ordering management, fixed asset management, depreciation schedules, etc
  • Assisting with accounts receivables and payables
  • Providing ad hoc support on day-to-day queries from a financial perspective

  • You have high energy and drive - you can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and work effectively to deadlines
  • You have a great attention to detail and ability to quality control others’ work and your own work

Requisite skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards) is favoured, but not required
  • 2–4 years experience working in a similar role or in an accounting/advisory firm
  • Audit experience looked on highly favourably - this role would be a great first move out of public practice
  • Excellent commercial acumen/the ability to quickly understand the ins and outs of the business
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work across all levels of the business including the management and executive teams
