In this role as a Volunteer Business Mentor or Project Mentor you will support people who are looking for new opportunities and/or pathways into self employment to get started on business or social enterprise or an idea for a community project. Use your skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of these people and who are looking to lead change in their community through community projects and through businesses. As part of this program you’ll learn and apply valuable mentoring and leadership skills to support and develop your own career as well.

Over 3 months of mentoring, you will be helping these people through different stages of planning and setting up a business or a community project. You’ll share skills, insight, professional knowledge and networks to assist in the development of their skills. Some examples of areas where you will be providing active guidance around are:

  • Administration & Planning skills: Developing project plans and task prioritisation

  • Sales & Marketing: Business/client development, marketing and pitching

  • Funding: Support with grant applications and avenues for business or project funding

  • Finance & Legal: One page business plans, calculating profit margins, considering legal issues and contracts.

  • Technology: Advice on web tools, developing a web presence, use of social media, website or online shop.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

As part of this program you will need to:

  • Commit to participating in mentor training, workshops and events.
  • Attend an Induction session and mentor training
  • Mentor a person looking to set up a social enterprise or business or community project
  • Allocate 2 hours/week of your time for mentoring from Early September to Mid December
  • Report on match progress to the Mentoring Program Coordinator
  • Complete a police check and sign a volunteer agreement.

Venue for events to be confirmed but they will be in North Richmond.

Depending on COVID restrictions events will be held online or a mix of online and in person

The Women’ Health Economic and Inclusion (WHEI) Project, is a community led, collaborative and holistic project which was voted for by the public and funded by the state government of Victoria. It is a fully subsidised series of programs aimed at encouraging people to become active participants and make a difference in their community.
