The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

Youth Services - Shepparton Youth Refuge provides highly supportive youth refuge accommodation to young people experiencing homelessness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position provides support to young people (16 to 21yo) who are residing in the Youth Crisis Accommodation Program (Youth Refuge) at Kialla. The primary purpose of the role is to assist young people who are homeless to progress towards stable longer-term accommodation through practical and emotional support and mentoring and living skills development.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all clients residing within the refuge setting.
  • Work in a manner consistent to the expectations of the Journey to Independence Model and follow the framework of a Psychologically Informed Environment.
  • Assist clients with a range of activities in preparing for independent living: meals preparation; life and living skills; health and hygiene; recreation and exercise.
  • Role model pro-social behaviour and develop effective relationships with clients that encourages self-determination and participation.
  • Clients are actively encouraged and supported to engage in the implementation

The facility operates 24/7. This position includes weekend, day, evening and overnight shifts and on-call responsibilities.

Reporting to the Team Leader this position is located at Kialla.

HOURS AND SALARY

  • We have one casual positions available.
  • Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 3.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Relevant diploma qualification in community services or youth work is required
  • Previous experience working with young people an advantage.
  • Experience and resilience in working with complex clients presenting with challenging behaviours
  • Acknowledgement and responsiveness to diversity of experiences, perspectives, values and beliefs
  • A current VIC Drivers License
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
