The Salvation Army Oasis Youth Support Network provides a place of safety, stability and support. Working with young people, aged 16 to 25, most of whom have experienced adverse life events, Oasis offers opportunities for young people to embrace their potential and envision their life taking a different path. From crisis and transitional accommodation, right through to case management, education and training, living skills and outreach, Oasis works to re-establish choice, self-worth and confidence in a safe environment, empowering young people to move forward in their lives and make positive choices for their futures.

About the role

Our Crisis Accommodation Service team, located in Surry Hills, assists young people aged 16-21 years of age, through the provision of a Youth Refuge. We are currently seeking a Casual Youth Worker to join our dynamic, committed team in providing a therapeutic and client centred residential service with the aim of transitioning young people out of homelessness.

  • Flexibility of a casual position
  • Surry Hills location
  • Support the restoration of choice, empowerment and safety for young people
  • Implement, coordinate and support living skills programs for young people working within the program
  • This position works across morning, evening and stand up night shifts.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Tertiary qualifications in community services or youth work or working towards tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or a related discipline
  • Experience working in youth services, homelessness, addiction or related field
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care framework
  • Self-motivated, high level of initiative and strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated effective use of interpersonal skills.
  • Team player, flexible with a positive attitude.
  • Be available for shift work- including stand up night shifts.

Applicants must also have the right to work in Australia, a current, full Working with Children Check and will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Check, it is also essential to have a current NSW class C driver's licence for this position.

University Students who are looking to gain experience whilst working towards their degree in related area are encouraged to apply.
