The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

The Tenancy Plus Program is part of The Western Metro Homelessness Service, situated in Sunshine. Tenancy Plus is a government-funded program aimed specifically to provide support, assessments and referrals to Social Housing tenants with the aim of establishing, sustaining and maintaining successful tenancies.

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Tenancy Plus Support Worker, to provide direct service delivery to at-risk social housing tenants to prevent tenants from becoming homeless and to establish and maintain social housing tenancies for those who reside in the Brimbank, Melton and Wyndham Local Government Areas.

You will successfully

  • Ensure tenants have increased awareness of rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997
  • Ensure tenants have increased awareness of the range of services and supports available to assist them to maintain appropriate accommodation
  • Increase self-efficacy and personal action through being able to seek supports and assistance when they are required
  • Provide tenants with a rapid response to address the families immediate housing needs
  • Enable tenants to have improved wellbeing and quality of life.
  • Allow tenants to be self-reliant and able to access services as required through self-referral
  • Support needs are addressed, or appropriate ongoing support referrals are established
  • Alleviate the risk of tenancy failure
  • Establish new public housing tenancies and link to appropriate supports

This is a full-time position fixed term for 6 months.

You will have

  • Demonstrates knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Understands and applies homelessness models, approaches, theories and practices when dealing with clients
  • Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or related community service field.
  • Experienced with working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities
  • Experience in managing staff and providing supervision
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.
