About the role

The Salvation Army Doorways Emergency Relief (ER) has a central focus on supporting clients in times of crisis, whilst concurrently helping them build their individual capacity and resilience. TSA Doorways Springvale provides support including the provision of the standard ER range such as material aid (food, food vouchers, clothing, household goods, utilities payment assistance) plus budgeting assistance, information provision, referral and advocacy.

The Doorways model links material aid assistance with opportunities for clients to be supported via a deeper holistic engagement through intensive ER assistance, and case management focused on giving a 'hand up' and not a 'hand out'.

The Team Leader role will build and lead an effective and high functioning team of staff and volunteers by providing hands-on day-to-day management to ensure service continuity of the Doorways program.

This role is also responsible for the provision of case management services to clients with more complex needs, as well as creating connections within the community to promote awareness of Doorways outcomes. The role requires the ability to build and maintain relationships and leverage them to maximise the potential for localised financial or in-kind donations to provide assistance to clients of Doorways and ensure service delivery targets are achieved and funding body requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute and maintain the Shared Mission Agreement, ensuring that Doorways aligns and integrates with other Mission Expressions on the site, and work proactively with Corps Officers and other co-located Mission Leaders to ensure a seamless experience for visitors and participants of The Salvation Army's programs.
  • Attend Doorways Network Manager meetings and other relevant forums; outcomes, procedures and policy updates are communicated back to staff and volunteers
  • Establish and manage volunteers to fulfil functions of specialist client assistance (e.g. No Interest Loans Interviewers), reception and material aid management.
  • Systems are implemented for clear communication and handover between staff, so that staff and volunteers have clear understanding of their roles and relevant procedures and are well-placed to contribute to the outcomes of the site
  • Develop capability development plans for the team to improve service delivery
  • All reconciliation, budgets and reporting requirements are adhered to and completed within the required time frames and as per policies and procedures.
  • Engage clients with complex issues are engaged with through a case management approach.
  • Accurate and timely client and service delivery data is collected using The Salvation Army information management systems.
  • Assist staff to achieve goals through positive collaboration with others internally and partner organisations
  • Manage staff attendances, training, prepare and submit payroll via the Kronos system.
  • Adhere to all WH&S guidelines, policies and procedures and identify and appropriately report risk and hazards.

3. Required Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in Emergency Relief
  • Minimum 12 months relevant case work experience or extensive experience in delivery of community support services to those experiencing financial hardship and/or with complex needs
  • Ability to use technology and software applications - in particular Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SAMIS and Kronos.

4. Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements

  • A degree level qualification in Welfare, Psychology, Social Work, Community/Human Services discipline is highly desirable, or a Diploma
  • Valid Police Check
  • Valid Working with Children Check

This is part-time position with 10 hours per week and under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award, Welfare Stream, Level 5.
