The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

Our philosophy is that every person deserves dignity, respect and quality of service and that no one should be without a safe, affordable and secure home. Services are free, voluntary, accredited and delivered by professional and committed staff.

A core program within the Salvation Army Crisis Services Network, the Crisis Contact Centre (CCC) in St Kilda, is a generalist service that offers a 24hr, State-wide crisis response to people of all ages. It is open for face-to-face assistance, on a drop-in basis, from 9am until 11pm every day of the year (including public holidays) and offers a telephone-based response 24/7.

The CCC is a high-volume service, and while many are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, clients of the service present with a broad range of needs. Immediate assistance may include financial assistance for emergency housing, food vouchers and other material aid, information, advocacy and planning, as well as referral to specialist supports in relation to housing, family violence, alcohol and other drug use and mental health.

The Team Leader will lead an energetic, creative and diverse team of Social Work practitioners to deliver high quality, safe and effective responses to Victorian individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and seeking support through the 24/7 Crisis Contact Centre.

We are looking for an energetic, inspirational leader:

  • That can lead to cultural and programmatic change
  • Is passionate about social justice and ending homelessness
  • Experienced in high-quality service delivery and creating high functioning teams

This is a full-time permanent position, located in St Kilda, close to public transport and parking.

You will have:

  • Degree qualification in social work, social science, psychology, or related field, and extensive relevant experience in the social service sector including management and supervision of staff
  • Ability to coach, supervise and manage change
  • Resilience, flexibility and adaptability
  • Creative outcome-focused attitude
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Advanced communication, written & organisational skills
  • Ability to ensure service delivery outcomes meet the required target
  • Relevant degree or above qualifications
  • Ability to manage crisis situations
  • Initiative to solve service delivery challenges
  • Valid and current VIC Driver's Licence
  • VIC Employee Working with Children's Check

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.

Selection Criteria:

  • A demonstrated understanding of the issues associated with homelessness and understanding of the homelessness service system.
  • Ensure clients are provided with access to a range of holistic supports including tailored brief interventions and advocacy services.
  • Establish a workplace culture of co-operation, encouragement, affirmation and accountability.
  • Manage the recruitment and retention of skilled, experienced and qualified staff to create positive client outcomes.
  • Sound knowledge of the resources and services available in the community, especially those related to housing, health (inclusive of alcohol and other drug and psychiatric supports), family violence and income security.
  • Well-developed client engagement skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team delivering a range of services and to be independent and autonomous where necessary
