ABOUT THE ROLE

We are currently seeking an experienced and values-driven Senior Youth Case Worker to lead a team of Youth Workers to provide support and case management to a range young people (aged 14 through to 25) with drug and alcohol issues, their families and carers in the Townsville area. You will ensure all activities provide quality care under a case management framework and in accordance with established procedures and in a culturally safe and appropriate manner.

This role will deliver appropriate drug and alcohol interventions, education and support and assessment and referral services in accordance with the TSA guidelines with the purpose of enhancing services to the community and supporting the achievement of the mission of TSA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate case management supports which include referral and assessment, advocacy, case planning.
  • Facilitate and coordinate one to one, group, and family based interventions.
  • Ensure case management documentation and records are accurate and up to date.
  • Assist young people to identify and build personal and vocational strengths to develop life and work skills and to build positive social, family and community networks, by the provision of both individual and group life skills activities.
  • Provide drug and alcohol education within high schools and other institutions and the community and link clients to appropriate training and/or specialist support services (eg substance abuse residential rehabilitation, mental health services, housing, health services).
  • Network and build partnerships with other TSA services, the drug and alcohol sector, the youth sector, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, education and employment services and the wider community. Represent TSA at Community Sector forums within the Townsville area as required

Reporting to the Manager this position is located at our Townsville Recovery Services Centre, Rowes Bay.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full time position, 38 hours per week fixed term to June 2021.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 5.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Alcohol and Other Drug Work or Youth Work or a minimum of Diploma Qualifications in Community services
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • (If in Recovery) A minimum of 2 years recovery is required for this position
  • A willingness to undertake further training and development
  • Experience in Case Management, ideally in a drug and alcohol service delivery environment
  • Experience in delivering educational presentations on alcohol and drug issues and providing group work and one to one discussion and support
  • Understanding of the range of issues faced by Indigenous Youth experiencing addictions to alcohol and drugs
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
