The Media Relations team is a small, highly professional, and compassionate team seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Media Advisor to drive Media Relations and external communications with a particular focus being the Mission Portfolio.

The Salvation Army (TSA) is seeking an experienced Media Relations Adviser to provide ideas-to-implementation of media relations solutions, with a primary focus on the work of our Social Mission services. You will also weigh into other key facets of daily life in the Salvos including the annual Red Shield and Christmas Appeals.

Working to enhance the profile and reputation of TSA's work, you will build productive relationships with members of the media and your portfolio of internal stakeholders. Your agile and considered thinking will contribute to the span of media relations challenges from campaigns to issues management.

The Senior Media Advisor reports to the National Head of Media Relations.

Key areas of accountability include:

  • The provision of media relations advice, direction and outcomes to a portfolio of internal stakeholders.
  • Influence development of media strategies and be responsible for operational and tactical ideas to implement strategic intent.
  • Develop key relationships with the senior leadership to assist advocacy and amplification of both policy positions and in-field service delivery.
  • Identify and develop media contacts dedicated to the Social Mission rounds.
  • Nurture and maintain positive relationships with media on behalf of The Salvation Army through efficient and professional contact.
  • Contribute to evaluation of media campaigns/initiatives, brand and reputation analysis, including compilation of reports and key learning.
  • Weigh into issue management as required, including after-hours as able.

ABOUT YOU

  • You will be a self-starter with strong industry connections and a track record of effective interpersonal relationships and successful collaborations. You lead through influence, recognise the inherent value in stories and approach subjects with empathy and curiosity. You are resilient under pressure and a strong analytical and conceptual thinker.
  • For this role you will have extensive professional and leadership experience in a communications role as a media officer or journalist in media, government or large health provider setting. You will also have a degree in Journalism, Media or related field.
