About the Team

Our Public Relations Office exists to ensure that The Salvation Army is the front-of-mind, positively regarded, organisation for each of our stakeholder groups. Our team work in a cross-disciplinary manner to achieve relationship, media, communications and fundraising outcomes across the state of Tasmania.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate Schools & Community Coordinator to join the Public Relations Team on a full time permanent basis based in Hobart.

Reporting to the Public Relations Secretary (TAS) the Schools & Community Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing a schools educational program and community engagement program to build awareness and understanding of TSA mission and social justice and advocacy issues;
  • Develop and implement a community fundraising plan, targeting Schools, community groups and businesses during key appeal periods, particularly the Red Shield Community Appeal and Christmas;
  • Engage young people with Salvation Army Services as volunteers, fundraisers and, where needed, clients or participants;
  • Support local Salvation Army centres to maximise school connections.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold tertiary qualifications in Public Relations, Education, Communications or Youth Work.

Key capabilities include:

  • Ability to advocate for and adequately represent the organisation in forums including public speaking;
  • Exceptional networking and relationship building ability;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • High standard of report writing and proficiency in formal presentation skills;
  • Strong knowledge of social justice issues and the welfare work of The Salvation Army;
  • Drivers licence;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in engaging with young people;
  • Working with Vulnerable Persons Check.
