The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

THE ROLE

Through the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army (TSA) and TSA Independent Non-State Special Assistance Schools, we are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Youth Worker to engage students in sustainable Education, Training and Employment Pathways. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Provide students with appropriate responses that enhance their emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological and social needs
  • Enable students to foster healthy, safe and respectful relationships with family, community and significant others
  • Identify and provide appropriate assistance to student experiencing difficulties at school and /or at home which may put them at risk of disengaging from their learning.
  • Monitoring and supporting students social and emotional wellbeing
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships for students to access work tasters, work experience and traineeships.
  • Collaborate and partner with external agencies to build pathways for school growth

Reporting to the Team Leader this position is located at Lawnton, 27-29 Lawnton Pocket Rd, Lawnton.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full time position, 38 hours per week.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 4.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • Minimum of Diploma level qualifications in community/youth services, education or similar discipline or minimum Certificate qualifications and/or extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience, skills and knowledge with working with students with trauma histories and/or are 'at risk' of being disenfranchised from school.
  • Experience in effective case management and facilitation.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An understanding of trauma, mental health and social and emotional development
  • A current QLD Drivers Licence
  • Valid QLD Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
