The Salvation Army Doorways program provides person-centred care to community members who are in a financial crisis or suffering other forms of hardship or distress. Our practitioners are mindful of trauma-informed practices, working within a strength-based context with holistic principles to build individual capacity, resilience, and well-being.

The Salvos Assessment Line (SAL) connects people to our Emergency Relief Assessment Team who will review clients' needs and help them obtain the necessary support.

We are seeking a values-driven and dedicated reporting to the SAL Team Leader. You will provide effective and efficient Emergency Relief assessments, advocacy and referrals and follows up via telephone to clients requesting material assistance from The Salvation Army (TSA).

We have multiple 6-month fixed-term full-time positions available based within the Cumberland LGA.

You will successfully

  • Conduct phone interviews and assessments in accordance with the Doorways model an assessor is expected to handle 20-25 calls per day
  • Escalate all unresolved problems to the SAL Team Leader
  • Provide assistance in line with available budget amounts ensuring that regions do not exceed weekly or annual budgets
  • Clearly communicate to clients any relevant information, including referral information
  • Provide appropriate referrals and advocacy for clients via telephone or other appropriate digital technology platforms
  • Maintain and update SAMIS and other relevant databases and online booking systems

You will have

  • A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Community Services or a relevant discipline is required
  • Experience or strong understanding of Emergency Relief service provision in Australia
  • Proficiency in another language, such as Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish and Russian is highly regarded
  • Understanding of case work practice and structural poverty in Australia is desirable
  • A valid Working with Children's Check
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police check

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.
