About the role

Working in Youthlink's Reconnect Team based in Mount Druitt, ensuring the program continues to provide an accessible and responsive early intervention service, assisting homeless young people, or those at risk of homelessness, and their families, within the Blacktown LGA, in a manner consistent with funding guidelines.

The Youth & Family Counsellor caseworker provides individual and family counselling, practical support, case management, referrals to services and immediate crisis support.

Providing an accessible, fast, mobile, flexible and free crisis intervention service to homeless young people, or those at risk of homelessness, and their families. This includes handling telephone inquiries and referrals, assessing needs, offering immediate crisis support and practical assistance.

Providing ongoing family mediation, conflict resolution, counselling, case management, specialist referrals and support directed towards individual healing and improved family relationships, effecting family reconciliation wherever appropriate. Family inclusion in client's recovery process such as mediation and family counselling.

Assisting young people to link or re-link into education, training, employment and the community through referrals, practical assistance, advocacy, motivational counselling, encouragement and ongoing mentoring and support.

Assisting in the organising and running of educational workshops, seminars and groups for young people and/or parents to meet identified needs.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling
  • Registration with AHPRA and/or other professional association
  • Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of strength-based focused practice
  • Have a high degree of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with report writing and electronic client information management systems
  • Experience in providing therapy and casework with young people &/or families
  • Experience in facilitating group work
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Ability to work in partnership with government and non-government organisations
  • Understanding of client confidentiality, boundaries and ethical practice
  • Current driver's licence
