The Salvation Army Australia provides unique support services to people who have experienced modern slavery; including trafficking, forced labour, servitude, sexual exploitation and forced marriage.

Drawing on its Lived Experience Participation Framework and experience providing the Freedom Advocates program, The Salvation Army will deliver a lived experience engagement program for survivors of modern slavery to use their expertise to provide feedback and advice to Government.

The Program Coordinator will ensure that the voices of people with lived experience of modern slavery in Australia are front and centre of the Government's roll-out of the National Action Plan to Combat Modern Slavery 2020-2025.

The Program Coordinator will create a best practice framework to ensure survivor engagement is effective and ethical and work closely with survivors, facilitating necessary professional development, support and debriefing throughout their participation. The Program Coordinator will liaise with Government and other stakeholders to arrange consultative meetings and create survivor-led written feedback. The Program Coordinator will report to the Trafficking and Slavery Safe House Program Manager.

This is a part-time (2-3 days per week) fixed-term position based in Sydney until 31 July 2023. There is flexibility to work from both home and the office based on program needs.

You will successfully

  • Develop the program framework, including monitoring and evaluation, for ethical and effective survivor engagement
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies in the sector to expand awareness of the program and encourage referrals of suitable candidates to the program
  • Using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, work with candidates to ensure they are well informed and prepared for participation, ensuring ongoing debriefing and support throughout program engagement in conjunction with the Consultant Psychologist
  • Facilitate individual and group meetings for survivors to provide feedback and advice on key issues, including consultative meetings with Government representatives
  • Use time management and organisation skills to ensure the program meets timeframes for deliverables
  • Deliver program progress reports and consult with Trafficking and Slavery Safe House Program Manager on project operations and budget
  • Engage in regular supervision

You will have

  • Relevant qualifications in a related field
  • Experience working with lived experience participation/consumer engagement (in any sector)
  • Experience overseeing and reporting on project deliverables
  • Experience leading the development of a lived experience participation framework highly desirable
  • Experience with qualitative research, monitoring and evaluation and project design is desirable
  • Experience in Trauma-Informed Care and strengths-based approaches are desired
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police Check and Working with Children's Check
