The AOF program seeks to assist families who, due to resourcing and capacity issues within the Homelessness Service Sector, are homeless or are at risk of residing in rooming houses or other unsuitable accommodation

The Salvation Army Social Housing and Support (SASHS) is the Access Point for the Brimbank and Melton Local Government Areas (LGAs), for people who are homeless or at risk becoming homeless, SASHS can make the referrals for appropriate housing or support services.

The Accommodation Options for Families (AOF) Program aims to prevent families from residing in unsuitable forms of accommodation and works towards securing long term affordable housing

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven person with proven knowledge and experience of working with the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 and VCAT processes. Other client key accountability areas include:

• Increased awareness of the range of services and supports available to assist them to maintain appropriate accommodation
• Increased capacity to explore options and to take positive action to secure stable and sustainable accommodation
• Providing a rapid response to address the families immediate housing needs
• Assistance in applying for Housing DHHS Bond Loan to assist with family relocation into Private Rental
• Families will be in secure, sustainable, stable long-term accommodation (ie longer than six months).

This position is located at SASHS office in Sunshine.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full time position, 38 hours per week maternity leave cover to 16 April 2021.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Community Development Stream, level 5.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

• Tertiary Qualifications or commensurate experience in Social Work or allied discipline
• Ability to engage and foster good working relationships with private real Estate Agents
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by families and the challenges faced by people who are disadvantaged in the community
• Demonstrates knowledge of housing sector including role, context, principles, philosophies, policies, regulations and legislation
• Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing housing, homelessness and/or tenancy issues
• A current Victorian Drivers Licence is advantageous
• Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
