Private Rental Assistance Program (PRAP) is an outreach intervention for households living in or entering private rental tenancies that require additional practical support to establish or maintain their housing
PRAP Plus is a new initiative, a support program addressing the need for increased support for some households accessing private rental.

PRAP Plus is designed to:

  • Provide time-limited outreach intervention to support tenancies.
  • Address issues which are contributing to the risk of tenancy breakdown.
  • Achieve outcomes that lead to successful, sustainable private rental tenancies.
  • Reduce preventable exits from private rental
  • Prevent homelessness

THE ROLE

PRAP are currently seeking currently seeking a values-driven PRAP Plus Worker with an essential working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. Other key accountability areas include:

  • Educate and assist clients with private rental applications
  • Develop a support plan with the client to address issues that are causing or have the potential to cause tenancy breakdown
  • Develop relationships with 'first to know' agencies, using existing relationships with local real estate agents, emergency relief workers, financial counsellors and other support services to identify 'at risk' private rental tenancies
  • Attend pre-vacating inspections, addressing issues to prevent blacklisting on TICA (tenancy database).
  • Attend the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in support of tenants
  • Develop & maintain strong relationships with real estate agencies and bodies, as well as landlords, to support early intervention and prevention of homelessness
  • Brokerage documentation and administration
  • Brokerage use is closely monitored for compliance with guidelines as well as achieving good client outcomes

The PRAP Plus worker is part of a Private Rental team who work closely with Homelessness Entry Point IAP teams and other specialist homelessness services, programs and teams.

This position is based at Geelong and works across the Barwon region. The PRAP Plus worker is an outreaching position and will work primarily with clients in the communities and settings where they live.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a part time position, 30.4 hours per week fixed term to 30 June 2021.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Social stream, level 5.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Client outreach experience demonstrating sound risk management practices and case management delivery is valued
  • A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 is essential to the role
  • Diploma or above tertiary qualification in a relevant social work or human services field
  • Demonstrates knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Understands and applies homelessness models, approaches, theories and practices when dealing with clients
  • Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
