The Salvation Army's Moneycare service offers free and confidential financial counselling to people from all walks of life. Our financial counselling service, Moneycare, exists to help people get through challenging times in their lives.

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Moneycare Financial Counsellor to provide financial counselling, client casework and advocacy, and conduct community education in order to ease the suffering or hardship of people in financial difficulty or crisis.

You will successfully

  • Provide a holistic financial counselling and advocacy service to people in financial difficulty or crisis
  • Provide expert advice to employees at entry levels and/or volunteers;
  • Conduct group community education (financial literacy/capability) sessions with a view to helping people build longer-term capability, manage their money better and make informed choices
  • Assistance is provided towards the preparation of funding submissions and compliance reports for the Moneycare service

This is a permanent, part-time position, 22.8 hours per week (days are negotiable).

Reporting to the Moneycare Manager this position is located in Ballarat.

You will have

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor with a member state association or peak body OR be willing to attain accreditation (as soon as possible)
  • Diploma of Financial Counselling or equivalent is required, OR willing to undertake study from the outset
  • Ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated money management and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people suffering difficulties and in crisis
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for training and development
  • A current and valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a counselling framework
  • Degree qualifications or extensive experience in the fields of welfare, finance, community services, psychology or business fields

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.
