About the role

The primary responsibility of the Manager Safeguarding Policy and Practice is to lead the development of, and training and compliance to, The Salvation Army's Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable People Framework.

The focus of the role is:

  • To act as the portfolio lead for Participation and Inclusion with a focus on child, family and community participation as well as the inclusion of people from diverse backgrounds, identities, experiences and abilities
  • To design the Children and Young People participation framework and associated policies, training, tools and processes
  • To strengthen the practice and culture of safeguarding throughout The Salvation Army

To be successful in this role, you will have subject matter expertise including:

  • A deep understanding of the Royal Commission research and recommendations into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • A demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding best practice and regulatory frameworks
  • A demonstrated experience in relationship management and influencing key stakeholders at senior levels of organisations, government, agencies and partners
  • Sophisticated policy and report writing skills
  • Experience leading cultural change initiatives in large organisations, preferably in a faith based organisation or church
  • An understanding of safeguarding in an international service delivery context is desirable

The successful candidate will ideally hold:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Science or associated field
