The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is an intake and assessment role which provides assistance, information and advice to individuals and families experiencing housing crisis as a result of homelessness or impending homelessness.

As the first point of contact for our homelessness services the position performs an important role in responding sensitively to the needs of people who are often experiencing personal crises. Those seeking assistance are able to discuss their situation with an Initial Assessment and Planning worker and explore options to best address their particular situation or need.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide information, referral, support and advocacy that responds appropriately to people presenting in crisis.
  • Complete detailed intake and assessments of clients in person and over the phone.
  • Crisis intervention strategies, including appropriate risk assessments, are implemented to respond to the crisis needs of program clients.
  • Strength-based and solutions-focused approaches are employed to jointly develop strategies with program clients to achieve identified outcomes.
  • A good working knowledge of accommodation and support options for people in housing crisis is maintained.
  • Service user needs are assessed according to Department of Families, Fairness & Housing (DFFH) program guidelines.

This position reports to the Horsham/Hamilton Team Leader and is located at TSA Homelessness in Hamilton.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a permanent part time position, 19 hours per week

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 4.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Willingness to work within the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army
  • Tertiary qualification and/or experience in the welfare sector preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Understands and applies homelessness models, approaches, theories and practices when dealing with clients
  • Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation.
  • Be resilient, outcome focused, make sound decisions, self manage, be a creative problem solver, respond professionally to conflict and act ethically and with integrity
  • ​A current VIC Working with Children Check or is required
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
