Based at the headspace Centre in Castle Hill the headfyrst clinician will provide assessment, treatment and support to young people presenting with comorbid AOD and mental health concerns from an innovative, responsive and flexible youth support service. This will be achieved through assessment, treatment planning, goal setting, regular review, ongoing counselling therapy consultations, exit strategy and follow up. The main goal of the service is to assist young people in establishing and maintaining a positive, healthy lifestyle for themselves within the community, in a manner consistent with funding guidelines, ensuring service delivery to clients is appropriate, effective, compliant and of high quality.

  • Provide high quality engagement, assessment, treatment and support to individuals and families who access headfyrst.
  • Providing evidence based counselling interventions for young people in the provision of evidence based counselling services.
  • Providing appropriate referral pathways and support for young people requiring further support.
  • Provide evidence-based, practical, individualised behaviour assessment and support for young people with complex support needs.
  • Provide a full range of recovery oriented therapeutic services that are strength based and trauma informed by utilising a range of modalities including, but not limited to:
    • AOD and mental health shared assessment
    • Consultations with families, other service providers and health services.
    • Goal setting, review, exit strategies and follow up.
    • Treatment advice and referrals to suitable services.
    • Counselling, including cognitive behavioural therapy, relapse prevention strategies, harm minimisation, AOD psychosocial education, ACT Therapy, and other cognitive-based psychotherapies.
    • Brief intervention (e.g. solution-focused therapy)
    • Family inclusion in client's recovery process such as mediation and family counselling
    • Group psycho­education sessions
    • Behavioural plans treatment and interventions

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Counselling (hold Provisional or General Registration with relevant professional Association)
  • Clinical experience in providing evidence based treatment
  • Ability to build rapport and engage with young people.
  • WHS - knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation.
  • Professional development required to maintain skills for the role.
  • Experience in the delivery of mental health services inclusive of specialist skills in assessing, managing and treating clients in a cross cultural setting.
  • Able to demonstrate the importance of and have a clear and strong understanding of the value of team work
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to impart knowledge in a learning environment
  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to service delivery
  • Have a high degree of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience with report writing and electronic client information management systems.
  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • A current driver's license.
