The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

Sal's by the lake is located in the middle of the excellent Speers Point Park. The cafe centrally located between the play areas and the lake and provide the best of both worlds.

Sal's a 100% NOT FOR PROFIT CAFE. All proceeds from the cafe's operations are channeled back into the community via The Salvation Army.

THE ROLE

We are seeking pro-active Food and Beverage Attendants to run daily operations at Sal's by the Lake. Providing quality customer service, processing sales and receipting money, filling orders, Barista duties, general food preparation, cleaning and cash handling.

The successful applicants must be able to work weekends, school holidays and public holidays.

It is essential that you have the ability to work alone, quickly and efficiently.

HOURS AND SALARY

We have casual positions available.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Restaurant Industry Award Level 2.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL HAVE

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service in a busy café or restaurant
  • High level barista skills (essential)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and provide 'on the job' training where necessary
  • High level of knowledge of workplace and legislated hygiene requirements (HACCP)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver on time
  • Deliver food to customers in a timely manner
  • Ability to work days, nights and weekends
  • A valid NSW Working with Children's Check
  • WHS - knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation.
  • Professional development required to maintain skills for the role.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army
  • Cash handling experience
  • Relevant Barista training and/or experience
  • Cert III in hospitality or equivalent
  • Current driver's license
  • Current senior first aid certificate

  • Good attention to detail and sound time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures

  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer/client service and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Energetic and flexible with a positive attitude. The physical requirements of the job vary from sedentary deskwork to physically demanding including the lifting and handling of equipment and long periods of standing
