The Salvation Army Australia's Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children's and parenting services, counselling, support, men's programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence.

We are seeking a values-driven and experienced Family and Domestic Violence Counsellor.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of effective, high quality, culturally sensitive, individual counselling and group programs for women who have experienced trauma through Family & Domestic Violence.

This is a full time, max term position until 30/06/2023 based at Catherine Booth House, Darwin.

You will successfully

  • Provision of one to one counselling for allocated participants of the program
  • Treatment Planning
  • Preparation and updating of participant case note
  • Good and clear communication with Program Manager
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the program philosophy and activities
  • Demonstrate collaboration and effective communication with all staff
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessment for clients using agreed tools
  • Respond to risk in accordance with network protocols, ensuring compliance with TSA risk management policies and procedures.
  • Compile and complete information and data requirements of funding bodies, organisational management and the community
  • Active and positive participation and collaboration in all required aspects of program delivery, conscientiously and diligently undertaken.
  • Maintain knowledge of and participate in relevant risk prevention.
  • Co-operate in achieving a safe and healthy workplace.

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.

You will have

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or related discipline
  • Experience working in the family violence sector is desirable
  • Experience in specialist family violence and/ or child wellbeing work is highly desirable
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment such as mental health
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate
