Through the work of Brimbank-Melton DHHS and the Homelessness and Social Housing Local Solutions Working Group, of which The Salvation Army's Western Metro Homelessness Services is a member, a part-time role has been identified and funded to assist in the strengthening of homelessness and housing support to persons leaving the care of Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU) at risk of, or homeless.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a values-driven person to strengthen and capacity-build connections between in-area Mental Health services and the Sunshine Homelessness services Access Point.

This position will develop and complete comprehensive assessment and planning processes to people who:

  • Present from SAAPU and are experiencing or are 'at risk' of homelessness
  • Present at the access point with significant mental illness/health issues
  • Frequently access homelessness support services
  • People identified within the common clients' initiative, particularly Cohort 3, 'men with complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues in contact with the justice system' will be prioritised for this comprehensive assessment and planning process.

This position is located at Harvester Road, Sunshine.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a part time position, 26.6 hours per week fixed term to 30 June 2021. Days are negotiable.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Social stream, Level 4.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • A minimum of Diploma of Community Services qualification
  • Previous minimum two years' experience in homelessness services sector - Access Point related work preferred
  • Knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • Uses appropriate strategies to deal with challenging or high-risk situations
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
