The Doorways program operates within the South Australia & Northern Territory Division of The Salvation Army Australia Territory (TSA).

The Doorways program is a network of programs and related services which aim to assist vulnerable and marginalised members of society in times of crisis and then through service delivery models assist them to make positive change in their lives.

Emergency relief includes attending to a client's immediate need, whilst learning and encouraging the sharing of the underlying issues that have brought the client to the centre. Then in conjunction with the client in a holistic way, finding ways or resources available to them to help in their underlying situation. Emergency relief services are able to provide material, financial, advocacy and/or referral assistance (subject to availability) to clients in their time of need.

Team members work as part of a team in conjunction with the team leader and other support workers to achieve the best outcomes for the clients. Our clients present from all areas of the community and as such are all treated with the same amount of dignity and respect when dealing with their presenting situations. It is expected that all members of the team actively seek to foster Corps/Doorways integration in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Emergency Relief Worker to provide emergency relief to vulnerable and marginalised members of the community that assists them towards responsible and life changing personal decision making under the Doorways Model.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assess client needs by following the established policies, procedures and guidelines and material assistance and referrals are provided as per guidelines
  • Effective relationships are established with clients that encourage self-determination and participation
  • Clients are assisted to access support services and establish community supports, and where needed are assisted through advocacy with service providers. Where applicable, clients are referred to appropriate specialist agencies. This includes processing of No Interest Loan applications as required
  • Client assessment reflects response to need within a service's limitation
  • Ongoing assessment is made of the client's issues, needs and circumstances from initial intake to exit through the use of the Opening The Doors model of service delivery.

HOURS AND SALARY

  • This is a permanent part time position, 22.8 hours per week
  • Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 3.

ABOUT YOU

  • Tertiary qualification in social work or community services or related fields - minimum requirement is Cert III in Community Services .
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment
  • SA Employee Working with Children Check
