THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven Emergency Relief Worker to assist with the delivery of emergency relief work for The Salvation Army in the Sutherland Shire.

You will ensure appropriate and professional emergency relief social services are delivered to individuals and families in the community and create a welcoming environment that facilitates further connection towards community and achieving The Salvation Army's Mission.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide equitable and efficient community support focusing on meeting community need
  • Engage with all persons coming for help and support with the intention of connecting them to each other, appropriate support services and our Mission.
  • Assessment and referral to internal and external supports as needed
  • Manage sources, records and processes for supply of community assistance including food and essentials handling and distribution
  • Manage volunteers

Reporting to the Sutherland Shire Community Coordinator this position is located at Miranda.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a part time, 19 hours per week, fixed term role for 12 months with a 6month probation. Roster is currently Tuesday and Thursday 10am-6pm and Friday 10am-2pm.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Level 2.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • A minimum qualification in relevant discipline (e.g. Cert IV in Community Services) or equivalent
  • Compassion for and at least one year experience working with people with complex needs and experiencing hardship such as financial difficulties, homelessness, substance abuse, domestic and family violence, mental health challenges.
  • Experience working effectively in collaboration with government and other organisations to provide community support to meet client needs.
  • Experience in volunteer management
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of The Salvation Army First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake at own expense.
  • A current Drivers Licence
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
  • Proficiency in data management
