Co-ordinate the kitchen operations and prepare food and beverage for Oasis Youth Services hospitality outlets. The Café Chef, as part of the role, will be responsible for ordering and facilitating the preparation and serving of food and beverage and participating in the supervision of café staff, work experience students, volunteers and various hospitality certificates students.

The position requires an all-rounder that is able to cover both BOH and FOH duties when required. Barista skills are a must. The cafe chef must be willing and able to engage in obtaining a Training & Assessment certificate. Must be able to travel when required to any of our other cafes. Weekdays and weekend availability is a must.

Position Purpose

Oasis Youth Services is a youth service which supports young people aged 12-24 on their journey to independence. The Chef / Trainer is responsible for food preparation and serving, ordering of stock and equipment, the delivery of vocational training in hospitality and commercial cookery, supervision of café staff and work experience students for Oasis cafés across the Central Coast and Hunter regions.

Key Responsibilities

Café Operations / Cookery / Front of house

  • Responsibility for the preparation of food and meals for café and oversight of commercial kitchen
  • Development and pricing of menu, in conjunction with Team Leader (Hospitality)
  • Café hygiene and WHS is managed according to legislation and standards
  • High standard and consistency of food and meals prepared for Oasis cafe
  • Coffee making and FOH operations when required.
  • Achievement and maintenance of industry standards
  • Participate in regular review of café operations for efficiency and effectiveness - menu, suppliers, stock, customers, students, volunteers
  • Kitchen equipment and property are adequately maintained as required
  • Required reports provided to Team Leader

Training

  • Delivery of vocational training courses, including the delivery of classroom-based and practical training
  • Planning, design and scheduling of vocational training courses, in conjunction with Team Leader (Training)
  • Student attendance and participation rates
  • Number of participants completing training
  • All RTO requirements met
  • Evidence of seeking and positively responding to feedback from participants, partner agencies, customers, and other staff to improve the program
  • Participation in regular evaluation and planning of training program and outcomes
  • Evidence of review, innovation and creativity in training delivery

Team support

  • Participates in team activities, attends staff meetings when scheduled and demonstrates a supportive approach to other staff members which contributes to the overall team effectiveness
  • Evidence of strong relationships with other team members
  • Demonstrated commitment to assisting and supporting colleagues in all workplace activities
  • Attendance at all staff and team meetings whenever possible

Required experience

  • Minimum 3 years industry experience in the hospitality sector
  • Experience supervising trainees or students
  • Experience as a vocational trainer (desirable)

Qualifications & Mandatory requirements

  • Commercial Cookery or Hospitality qualification
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Working with Children Check
  • Willingness to undertake National Police Check
